Patent on cordless power tools and accessories?

For combo cordless power tool sets, there are many accessories the manufacturer promotes – the drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, small vacuum, light, radio, etc.

If someone comes up with another tool that can be used, using the same batteries of a combo pack, can a patent be obtained for that idea?

Hypothetically speaking, lets say the radio for use in combination, with a specific brand power tool set has not been done before. Obviously, the radio is not new, nor is a battery powered radio. The idea of designing a radio to be powered by the same batteries used for the other accessories may be new and be allowed patent protection.

I have been doing some patent searching, but I’m having difficulty in narrowing the search down.
Any suggests on finding the patents on these manufacturers as it might relate to my situation?

Does it seem possible to get a patent like this, and how would I specify the claims?

How would I approach manufactures after filing?

Thanks.

What is a good 10″ or larger drill press ?

I am used to working with power tools and this will be my first drill press purchase. Extremely hesitant about purchasing "off brands". Very Important factors are: 10" (or larger) drill press, Under 0 USD, Low spindle run-out (<=0.005"-nothing with cheap bearings), low speed under 500RPM, 3" depth drilling would be nice, adjustable tilt table, 1/2" chuck (keyed is preferred), floor model or table top model, at least 1/3 HP motor (continuous duty rating). Laser sight is not needed, NO digital readout. I am using it for wood and want the lower speeds for bi-metal hole saws. Obviously, solid construction & a good warranty. I have been doing research on the "net" & in stores.

If there are other important factors/accessories that I should be aware of, point them out so I can make an educated decision. Any and all comments & help is greatly appreciated. Can anyone help?

Why Don't We have "Battery Pack" Electric Cars?

Most of the reasons I hear for why we don’t yet have 100% electric cars center around the lack of an acceptable range for those cars.

Well similar reasoning used to be used to explain why electric hand tools like drills weren’t that popular. But then they finally thought to develop quick change battery packs for those tools and all of a sudden battery powered tools became popular.

Well the same sort of reasoning should apply to electric cars. All you have to have is a chain of "battery stations" to do the charging and equip the electric cars with quick change battery packs to allow really fast (30 second?) battery changes. You drive as long and as fast as you want and you let the battery station take care of the charging. You could have maybe three sizes of battery A, B, and C and depending on how large your vehicle was.
Battery Pack means that the "pack" is charged seperately. It is charged slowly and carefully to maximize life and the efficiency of the system. It is only the swapping out operation that happens quickly (3o seconds perhaps?) When your old pack is discharged you can either charge it at home or work or just stop by the "battery station" where an already charged fresh pack will be waiting for you. Obviously they will charge you for this service but it should still be cheaper than paying for gas. Also since it uses electricity the source of electricity used to charge the pack can come from a clean sustainable "Green" source.

Convert a Battery powered tool to a plug-in tool?

I got these battery tools a few years ago and the cells are useless now. I get less than 15 minutes of play on each battery pack. Got 2 batteries so I want to convert 1 to the plug-in type. Gut the pack and connect leads from a female standard dc connector (which I’ll mount to the exterior of the pack) to the internal leads.

Question is this: 19.2 Volt battery that uses a charger that pumps out 1.5 amps. There is no other info available on the battery. The volt meter gives me strange readings for output amps. What kind of DC adapter do you guys think would work?

I got this laptop variable DC adapter 10-25V and 3 amps (max 75 Watts) but it has a regulator built in and every time I hit the trigger on the drill the adapter shuts off.

Is a $150 nail gun worth it?

I’m replacing some trim and am considering purchasing this nail gun:

(Craftsman 27233 Professional Electric Brad Nailer)

Is this a good one to buy?

How would you react if you saw this accessory on a VW New Bug?

It’s been well established that New Bugs are one of the few modes of transportation available with strictly female drivers in mind (even going so far as to add a cute little built-in vase for some floral decoration). Given that it’s a girl’s car, how would you react if you saw one that had a pair of iron vaginal lips grafted onto the rear bumper, like the iron testicles that you see dangling from the back of so many "manly" pick-up trucks?
